Ah, the elusive Generation Y (aka. The Millenials, Echo Boomers, Net Generation, The Boomerang Generation, the Peter Pan Generation). Defined as anyone born after 1982, our generation has grown up on the cutting edge of technology and strongly influenced by immediate gratification and instant access to information. We are constantly referred to as “entitled” in the workplace by Generation Xers and Baby Boomers which can cause a clash of the cohorts as we share work environments with 3 other generations:
The GenXers (born 1965-1981) – as the children of Baby Boomers, they are defined by their thirst for success playing side-by-side with their desire to buck traditions and break “institutionalization”. They set the stage for technology in the workplace. We can thank them for 80’s music, the brat pack, and feathered bangs.
