The Chasm between Business and History


There is a tremendous amount of creativity that goes into writing academic papers, I think, no matter the discipline. Sleepless nights go into it–writing, deleting, revising, agonizing. The works. (Sleep is for the weak!). And in both cases you feel like you’re flinging a little piece of your soul out there to be mauled and chewed over. You are in a position where you willfully make yourself vulnerable. It might not work out. There are plenty of cases where it doesn’t. It’s a weird sort of masochism. But people do it anyway.
